n00b needs advice on overclocking

Thread Starter
Hi all first post have read though some of your forum had have to say very good and informative.

but now need alittle advice i would have followed some other posts on this forum but as specs and systems all vary thought id better ask about mine this is a new build i could have bought some better stuff but didnt so sort of got what of got .
im hoping im able to get my processor from the 2.6GHz stock to 3.0GHz,feel i would be happy with that i have filled in my spec form so you can see what i have now hoping you are able to help me achive the 3.0GHz.

alittle about my bios options under the advanced tab i have these options and as set at the moment,

cpu freqency 200.0 highest it will go 400.0

pci express clock 100mHz highest it will go 145mHz

DDR voltage auto highest it will go 1.80v

cpu multiplier auto (at the moment have this set to 13x) highest it will go 13x

cpu voltage auto highest it will go 1.350v

pci clock sync auto (options are)to cpu or 33.33mHz

at the moment the temp sits at 22c and under load 25c

here are some screen shots of cpu-z

Well i hope you have enough info to help me archive the 3.0GHz mark i am very new to playing in the bios so if you could just give me some settings to put in i would be grateful.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with your board so I can't speak from experience but just a couple of things that may help:
1. You notice that according to CPU-Z your CPU is running under stock speeds, that is because there is an option in the bios that throttles the CPU when it isn't in a demanding enviornment. You are going to want to find that option in the bios and disable it or else your overclocking will have little to no effect.
2.The only other thing is that if the values you gave as your mothboards max increase for the listed areas is correct then you are going to have a tough time getting very far with this OC. The bios looks like it is very limited in it's options and options are what you need.

For now you may as well try and see how far the CPU will go on the stock voltage, that'll be a start.

what BIOS version do u have? The latest BIOS at the ASUS site is 1201 for your mobo.

http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Im an OC-ing noob too...but there are many ppl on this site with your mobo and CPU out of all the overclocking sites this is probably the best Ive seen! In this thread alone:

http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/25...tion-club.html

there are two ppl on first of 30++ pages with your mobo, one with a 5000 and the other with a 6400, in the rest of the pages ull find probably 5-10 more ppl with same chip and mobo

Your cpu is throttling (cpu multi is 5x in cpuz screen). You need to disable the cool n quite setting in bios before attempting any overclocking.

Yeah turn off cool n quiet, the 5000 has unlocked multipliers so you shouldnt have to mess with the fsb, more voltage after 2.8 ghz maybe
