I think this is getting better beause i have been seeing some better gaming options for hardware in best buy and such. Finally I saw an OEM computer with an 8800gt installed, it seemed before the best GPU you could get in the store with a q6600 setup was an 8500 or 8600gt. Also I'm sure more of those new gateway laptops with the decent graphics in them are selling now. The problem was from what I saw over the Christmas season was that even if you went into BB and told them you wanted the best for gaming they didn't even have anything that could game decent in stock.

As far as buying a low end laptop and expecting it to game being the customers fault, it is. Unless they were lead to believe it could play the latest games. But even if that was the case most people should know by now to not listen to the employees of electronics stores. I cringe looking at the people who do. Mind as well burn $1000 if you do, because everybody needs a warranty/battery backup/and network security fortress to protect all the crap no one wants to steal from them right?

Depends on what else you want to do with it, if all you want is web browsing...well my PS3 does that, but if you want a rig that will do vid encoding or something along those lines, you still can't get by with a crappy computer. Fact of the matter is, a crappy computer basically does Word, Excel, E-mail, Paint, and Interwebz. My PS3 can do just about all of that, especially if you run Linux on it. To do anything else with your computer, you need better machinery than just about all of what is regularly available from most manufacturers.

I think he is mistaken. It is consoles that are good for everything but games.

Example: The Wii, it can tell you the weather, and news as well as browse the web.
Example: Most people who bought a PS3 only bought it for Blu-ray. Maybe one or two games.
Example: The 360 is a media center, that just so happens to have a few games on it which get ported to the PC with extra levels/maps/updated graphics a year later.

And thats coming from a Ex-Nintendo fanboy (Three years back.).

There isn't enough demand or draw. The stores respond to the market, and most of the gamer market is savvy enough to build their own machines, thus not buying them at stores, so stores sell to who is in the store, grandma, grandpa and Jed who just want a shiny box with flashing letters and numbers on it.

Nice one.

Really, the only problem with PC gaming is the hardware companies over charging (Seriously, both nVidia and ATi cut Stream Processors in their GPUs unless you pay the premium for the "better" models. As well as the multiplier in Intels and AMDs CPUs locked unless you pay a premium for the "better" models.) and these developers.

Not to mention that hes taking about Intels integrated GPUs not being able to game (Or something similar) when AMDs new chip-set is apparently going to be able to play todays games (At lower resolutions and settings of course, but playable none the less.)

If the hardware companies just charged fairer prices then console gaming would be gone and hardware sales would boom. Everyone would be happy. Assuming the game developers make a decent anti-cheat system to ban all those new cheaters who would be coming in.

Intel's integrated graphics doesn't count as a gaming PC. This guy just seams to want to rag on PC gaming.
