Figure the PS2 as I mentioned earlier, it's lifespan was about 5 years (actually more, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the conservative side here because it's still enough to make my point), no imagine trying to play a brand new game on a 5 year old machine without changing anything about it. Simply not possible unless like I said, it's playing a game like bejeweled or the like.
OK, I give you that, BUT in that 5 year time frame, you can spend on some new parts on money that you HAVE saved. And the PS2 looked like utter crap after 5 years, but that is beside the point.

Yes, consoles are here to stay, no matter what. But with PC, we are bound to push the industry of gaming to new heights due to the fact that Consoles are highly limited, and PC's are not. At that, you are comparing PS3 to PC, which is coincidently enough, not what I was comparing to, I was comparing to xbox360 (currently the most popular console next to wii). I give props to the PS3 for the integrated Blue Ray, but even so, it cannot push the boundaries of gaming, since it has a limited GPU and RAM.

I played games on a 4 year old PC on modern games. A 6800U seemed to play fairly well on most games, excluding crysis.

I agree, could just be a fluke given that hardware has been outpacing software (crysis excluded) but my third computer is an Athlon 64 3500, 1gig of ram, and a 6800U and it plays everything surprisingly really well.

PS2 did not look like 'utter crap'. At least it did not suffer from the inv\\cessant blurring effect of the XBOX's flicker filtering, which people have been known to hack their consoles just to switch off.

We have differing opinions because I never thought these games looked like
"utter crap". They're no Oblivion or Crysis, but they are impressive for old hardware.

Those do look nice but I think he wasnt referring to a 2"x2" screenshot. When any of those games are stretched accross 42" or bigger of screen they do start to look pretty bad. I know...I have a PS2 and I play it on a 52" TV.

It may have a 10 year life cycle or whatever Sony has said, but thats like a professional upscale whore out doing business until the age of 65. Sometimes you just gotta learn to move on to different/new things!

Oh big deal, So it had jaggies!

Better than the flicker blur XBOX produced... in my opinion anyway.

Shenmue 2 was FAR superior on Dreamcast than it was on XBOX. Sharper textures, sharper everything. Lower framerate but my god, it looked amazing.

And im no XBOX basher! Im stating a fact.

Shoot, I thought most stuff on DC looked better than anything on Xbox or PS2 and it came out a long time before either. DC was definately WAAAY ahead of its time.

/off subject

It isnt just jaggies though. On even a nice tv the textures are horrible when stretched that far. A PS2 or Xbox for that matter are best played on a 27" CRT TV

I played games on a 4 year old PC on modern games. A 6800U seemed to play fairly well on most games, excluding crysis.
ok now how many people in the US alone know anything about video cards, part upgrade, and installing those parts.

Alot of you don't understand that its not that simple to just go out and buy parts if you don't know anything about parts and computers to begin with. ALL of you(well most) need to stop assuming people know things about computers. I can bet my rig that the number of people in the US who CAN build a system greatly outweighed by the number of people who CANT.

If you love console games, that doesn't mean its easy for you to move to PC. For me it was an easy to build a PC cause i've wanted to do it since i was 4 (18 now) and had all the proper teaching by messing around with computers and reading stuff. Yes my current build sucks in terms of a mother board, but that costs money. I can bet you my processor alone cost more then my nintendo wii(technically i only paid 250 for a Q6700).

but i know why it cost more because its .26(not really much) faster and has a 10x multiplier, to the smart OCN member, you would say screw that and go with a q6600 which is what stores like best buy sells as their quad intels. but to the person who knows nothing a q6600 vs q6700, they see about a 200 dollar difference in price and automatically assume its 2 or 3 times as better for the price hike, BUT ITS NOT.

Working at best buy i hear people come and say I want your best computer, show them the HP M9150F that has a Q6600 and they buy it. But when i ask them what are they gonna use it for (assuming that they tell the truth), they say just going on the internet, watching some dvds, typing paper, aim, etc... Basic things that a normal Dual Core Pentium can do with little to no trouble at all. But see people don't know that.

Then there are people who still think the Pentium is the best thing intel still offers cause they have still not heard of the core 2 series. So they come in and ask what the best computer is, i show them a core 2 computer and they say "I wanted the best, the best is Pentium i don't know what this core 2 what ever is" my reply to that yea it was when the Pentium 4/D first came out they were. but thats not the case.

In short stop assuming its easy to go out and buy parts and upgrade. Its not that simple for normal every day Jill and Barry who are upscale suburban buyers who are in their 40s who wants to take their time and research a product in a store. Where Carrie and Buzz are urban trend setters that are usually around the age of 25-30 and what they usually want is the best out of the box.

I'm pretty sure you can build a TV better then Samsung's best TV for less money, but are you going to do it? Probably not cause A. you don't know how to build a TV and B. it will involve a lot of time with researching to figure out what parts make this and that.
