e8400 core temps

Thread Starter
I have a nirvana hsf and a stock e8400, no overclocking. Just built this PC and was wondering if these are OK temps (these are idle, sitting at my desktop). I used AS5, and my fan is on the nirvana is controlled by the mobo right now (it's not even running atm). I'd love to be able to OC to 4.0 like everyone else has been doing, but these seem a tad high for that to me; however, I don't know much about OCing, so I figured I'd make sure my stock temps are good first.

Thanks for any suggestions or comments in advance

Those temps seem fine, what are you temps under load?

Yeah those temps are fine, a nice platform to start overclocking.

As long as you keep your CPU under 1.375v you should be able to get at least 3.7Ghz or so.

Just try to keep your CPU temps under 55C

sensors on E8400 are inaccurate at idle, need to go by load temps. Also at load the two sensors should read closer to same temp, unless one is defective.

And you are probably reading 10C high on top of any error, as coretemp is using tjmax of 105C (mobile cpus) and actual tjmax is likely closer to 95 on desktop cpus.

run orthos, ffts in place, and show your load temps.

I honestly haven't even installed my 8800gt drivers yet, I jumped right on here with my temps because it's my first time using an aftermarket HSF and thermal compound so I wanted to make sure I was good to go on the idle temps before anything else. I'm about to install the rest of my drivers now. What's the best way to see my load temps?

Core 0 might have the sticking problem. Download Orthos from the download section, run it and select small FFTs - Stress CPU.

I'm checking out orthos now (first time user) and i ran the test that has "ffts in place" in it, but I just see 0 errors and I don't see where the temp is.

Where does it say temps? It just says running torture test, 0 errors. no temps.
