Xubuntu. Suse (using XFCE). Arch.

Ive never used Xubuntu but im sure that would be easier than Arch to setup. However, im sure Arch is smaller. You choose the gui/window manager during setup. I started with Fluxbox and now im on Xfce. Xfce is like a lightweight Gnome.

Yeah, it resembles GNOME, although it has much less functionality. It still does a lot and at the same time is a lot more light weight. It really will improve the speed of an older computer.

Fluxbox is even more lightweight, but it's much harder to use.
