Q6600 OC help

Thread Starter
ok, I can only overclock my cpu to around 3.0ghz before i have to change my memory timings. After i change my memory timings from Auto to 5-5-5-15 it works and boots up into windows.

With my memory timings change to 5-5-5-15, i can now overclock up to 3.6ghz. When i run super-pi i get 13seconds in the 1m test, the cpu runs really fast but if i run 3dmark or play any games my FPS is very low. I just don't get it, as soon as i change the memory timings, my FPS go to *****.

This is my memory http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...acture=CORSAIR

I have tried every different memory timing setting possible

If i need to get better memory, to get a higher overclock. What is the BEST ddr 800 memory the overclocking, that will get me the highest overclock?

Thank you for any help

I think the crucial Ballistix ddr2-800 will do the trick, their d9's and overclock like crazy. FYI i run mine at 2:3 at 500mhz on my sticks to a 3.0ghz Q6600
so it's been overclocked to 1000mhz on 2.0V :] I promise you'll be satisfied with these sticks

Have you tried to get your memory to run on a higher speed? Just keep the timings on 5-5-5-15 and allow the memory to run on a higher speed by increasing the dram voltage accordingly.

I think you need to do a little more tweaking before you decide to go with another set of memory. What speed is your memory running at with those timings and what kind of voltage are you using in them? I understand that getting lower FPS with higher frequencies is frustrating but going out and spending big $ on memory may not be necessary so don't jump to that step just yet. Plus memory upgrades (in terms of MHZ not GB)are generally the least beneficial when it comes to increasing FPS. I have a set of XMS2 that does 1068 5-5-5-12 @ 2.125, wheras the Ballistix I tried couldn't even hit 1000 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v.

Give us some more info on what of settings your memory is running with, you may be surprised what you can get out of them.

The memory voltages i have tried, to see if it would make a difference are 2.10, 2.15, 2.25 and 2.30. They did not change anything but make the memory hotter.

My NB VCore is at 1.45, i have also tried 1.55, no change, only hotter.

I have tried changing my memory from 800mhz to 1000mhz and than the computer dose not boot up. When i changed the memory to 1000mhz, i also tried putting the Memory voltage up, put the NB voltage up and tried change the timings to 5-5-5-18. still nothing worked at 1000mhz

Here are my memory settings.

Memory remap feature - Disabled
Dram CAS# latency - 5 Dram clocks
Dram RAS# to CAS# delay - 5 Dram clocks
Dram RAS# precharge - 5 Dram clocks
Dram RAS# activate to precharge - 15 Dram clocks
Dram write recovery time - 5 Dram clocks
Dram TRFC - 42 Dram clocks
Dram TRRD - 10
Rank write to read delay - 10
Read to precharge delay - 10
Write to Precharge delay - 11
Static read control - Disabled
