Thanks for the replies guys
There are 2 basic standards for RAM. jedec and epp. (enhanced performance profile) It is a name given to performance RAM (obviously) Most epp RAM runs at 2.2v and most jedec at 1.8v. Since Ballistix are considered epp, they run at 2.2v.
I don't know a lot about it, but I have heard that epp was a marketing gimmick that stuck. Most RAM manufacturers list what they want you to run for voltage. It is usually anywhere between 1.8v-2.2v, with 1.8 and 2.2 being the most common. I have seen some RAM rated for 1.9v or 2.1v as well. It is always best to go by the manufacturer. Some have said that 2.2v is too high, even if that is recommended by crucial. I, personally, go with what the manufacturer recommends and haven't had any problems.
(besides, Crucial has a lifetime warranty)
