heat sink e2200?

Thread Starter
quick question, is it ok to use the heatsink from a q6600 on a e2200,
the reason i ask is i have a spare q6600 HS and would like to use it on a friends e2200 to gain a small/medium overclock, but looking at the base of both heatsinks the q6600 has a larger copper base, will this be a problem?

thanks in advance

Since they are both 775 socket, it should work. It's bigger than the e2200, which is alot better than being smaller o.O

Make sure you reapply some thermal paste too.

Putting it on with no paste will ruin his CPU.

DO NOT INSTALL WITH NO TIM!!!! (or existing. You shouyld always clean both surfaces with some rubbing alchohol (90% or higher) and apply a small amount of TIM. Usually the size of an uncooked grain of rice. Go and buy some or you will fry the CPU.

Well, you could run it naked without TIM, if you'd like some uber machine to lap it insanely flat.

Otherwise use TIM.

You would need to have it done by a lathe or something similar. I do not think you could get both surfaces flat and even by hand. Take into account they small imperfections in the mounting set-up of the HS and you could easily still have microscopic gaps. All it takes is one hot spot
