The DFI LanParty DK X38-T2RS Thread - Page 17

I am on the other end of Villainstone's trade

So far, I am a happy camper. The Q6600 (B3) is running at a bit over 3.4GHz, and the main thing holding me back from more is temperatures.

Hey guys, I'm using the DK X38 along with an E6400 and a 2x2GB G.Skill 1066 kit. I successfully managed to OC the CPU to 3.2GHz (@ ~1.4V) and have the RAM running stock (1066MHz @ 2.1V) I realize that this is a rather taxing OC for my hardware (it's a solid 1GHz jump on the CPU) but hey, this is a DFI board with some G.Skill, and I'd like to go a little more. I tried keeping my CPU at the same OC, and moving the RAM to 1203MHz (which was the closest jump up in frequency I could make) @ 2.2V, but no go. So, I tried bumping DOWN my CPU OC to 3.0GHz, and trying the RAM again, but this time I could only get it to boot up at 1127MHz, I couldn't get to the 1250 that would be one step further. My question to you guys is can I have my CPU OC'ed to where it has been (or even a little more, but I don't think I'm willing to go to 1.5V) and somehow manage to push my RAM, or do I need to back off? And if I DO back off, will there be a performance gain compared to my current setup? Another thing: I have the stock heatsink but haven't managed to get a fan for it, so if your suggestion is upping the volts for the NB, keep that in mind, I doubt I can go very far due to inadequate cooling. Thanks in advance!

So far, so good. I am going to try to get back to 3.6GHz this afternoon.

My ram crapped out again at 3 ghz.... What's going on I'm running 5-5-5-15 timing, but do I need to go into more detail and fine tune it more...Plus I know my ram is limted, but what can I do :S

**I think PC6400 ram is not great for OC...

Well I have a run of bad luck right now. I can't get prime stable past an hour at 3.5GHz. I have the vcore at 1.44v and it is still crapping out. I have the memory set low so that is not the issue. On the P35 I was able to reach 3.5GHz with 1.42v on the vcore with the 680i I was able to reach 3.6GHz prime stable with 1.44v. Here are my basic settings. Any ideas on how to get back to 3.5GHz again?

Clock Amp 800mv
Both Skews 0
CPI Vid Special Add +150.0mV
DRAM Voltage 2.1v

CPU VTT 1.305v
Vcore Droop Enabled
Clockgen Voltage 3.45v
GTL+ Buffer Strength Strong
Host Slew Weak
Both CPU GTL 0.667x
NB GTL 0.67

I can go a few hours and then crash...I think I have memory that's not suited to be overclock...

I saw some links posted to a 714 beta bios for this mobo but they are dead links right now. I am wondering if this would help as one of the items listed is optimized system o.c. function.

UPDATE: It was beta bios 711 not 714. There is a link for it now. I have downloaded but I haven't flashed to it yet.

I was wondering if people could list their oc and their cpu vtt and gtl settings. I am trying to get mine tweaked and I don't think it is an issue of vcore.

What you guys think?

RAM : 2048 MB DDR2 Dual Channel
RAM Speed : 517.5 MHz (3:4) @ 5-5-5-15
Slot 1 : 1024MB (PC2-6400)
Slot 1 Manufacturer : Crucial Technology
Slot 2 : 1024MB (PC2-6400)
Slot 2 Manufacturer : Crucial Technology

= 1035mhz on memory.

Need to get some better memory soon, I'm getting annoyed with my ballistix.
I cant do 3.5/3.6, i run prime95 for 2 minutes and then the computer screen goes black and it restarts, my temps on idle are 39C, and load at 60. Any ideas? Also my voltages were at 1.50v for cpu core, vtt and nb.
