32-bit windows, amd64, 64-bit linux... (QUICK QUESTION)

Thread Starter
i have an athlon64 x2 so when i install any linux distros i need to use the 64-bit ones, but my windows vista is 32-bit.

so my question is... why do i NOT require vista 64-bit. this is most likely a really simple answer for this, i just dont see why this is the case.

You don't HAVE to use a 64 bit Linux. AMD64 (64 bit) processors are backward compatible with the x86 (32 bit) architecture.

Who told you that you have to use 64-bit Linux on your AMD64 CPU?
