2 dollars says that somewhere in the 4000 series, there will be a dualcore gpu, not too chips, two cores on one chip.

Could it be that they mean to say, that the two cores on the PCB, share the same memory? The HD3870x2 has two sets of 512MB of GDDR3 for each RV680. The HD4870x2 might have 1025MB that is shared by both RV780s?
