[DIGITIMES] AMD preps 45nm for August/September launch - Page 2

Deneb is the name of the desktop part based off of the 45nm Barcelona architecture. Some people are calling it K10.5 because of the process shrink and the IPC enhancements that 45nm is supposed to bring along as well.
Like how the original R600 architecture got beat down and R650 came back and is not handing nVidia some serious pain?

Also what is IPC?

IPC or OPC (which ever one you prefer, they're basically the same thing) Stands for Instructions/Operations Per Cycle. The Pentium D series is like 2-3 IPC, and the Core 2's are 12. The Phenom is 8-10 I think. Having a higher IPC/OPC means you can do more per cycle, and thus you don't need to have as high Ghz to achieve the same thing.

It would be nice to see AMD kick some but. Last time they were doing great was when the Athlon 64 came out, and many a-gamer was all over it. Maybe that time will come again?

Yea i hope AMD throws out a gem that dominates, they need it. Competition between AMD and Intel only benefits us. Being one sided to either is dumb.

what??

I thought Pentium D was 6, Athlon X2 was 9, And Phenom and Core 2 were both 12, but the Phenom just performed a little worse

Actually, the K10 performance per clock differs highly by the situation. If all cores are being utilized the performance per clock far exceeds Core 2. In single core, however, the Core 2 architecture beats K10 by a fairly good sized gap. (Hence Core2 will do better in games, which i know is everyone's first question.) If i hadn't lost all my bookmarks to a PC crash i would link you to a very interesting article on the subject.

Core 2's are about 3 times as powerful clock for clock than Pentium D's. But yes, Licht is right, the Phenom does have it's momments

If AMD can pull this off maybe it'll par with C2D.. but what im worried about is Nehalmazahlm
