Side Panel Case Fan?

Thread Starter
I just bought a Gigabyte GZ-X1 V2 case.

This is the side of the case:

The top side vent has a duct on the inside that is roughly 7cm long so I have to get rid of it, otherwise a tall CPU fan like the Thermaltake Big Typhoon won't fit so I want to install a fan there or something because the case will look ugly without the screws screwed into the screw holes with the duct missing.

A 80mm fan will line up with the screw holes just fine so is it a good idea to replace the air duct with a 80mm fan?

It will be about 2cm away from the top of the CPU fan with the case closed. If I should put a fan there, should I install the fan so it pushes air through the vent or sucks?

If adding a fan is a bad idea then what else can I put there?

Thanks!

PS: Anyone who has this case, how do you take the front panel off to install a DVD drive? I can't find any plastic tabs to push in and the drive won't slot in from the back end.

I would rather put it on the side vent because a fan on the air duck will be to close to cpu.
You might even be able to cut of that black thing also .

What if I replace the Big Typhoon with some other CPU fan, one that will have a fan that blows towards the back of the case instead of towards the side like the Typhoon?

With the air duct taken off, the biggest CPU fan I can install is one that doesn't exceed 14 ~ 15cm in height.

Which one would you all recommend me?

What a dilemma

I have a Coolermaster case which has a similar duct on it. You can barely notice that it's missing from the outside. I removed the duct on mine to accomodate my Zalman cooler. I don't think that having a fan right there would do much of anything other than create a bunch of turbulence since it would basically be a 90 degree cross breeze to the rest of the air flow.

Edit: After looking at the pics again, it looks like that Gigabyte case is EXACTLY like a Coolermaster case. I bet CM makes the cases and Gigabyte rebadges them since they're really in the motherboard biz.
