Vista performance issues.

I'll admit it...I'm a Vista noob. I hat ethe damn OS and I wish it would die.

With that said, my mother-in-law's pc is running HORRIBLY.

It's a brand new HP Pavilion a6200t with Vista home Basic and 1 gig of memory. With firefox and the sidebar running, the cpu was pegged at 100% load at all times. I have since disabled the sidebar and told them to lay off of FireFox until I get this fixed. It's the newest beta FF which is wonderfull on all my XP boxes. She likes Firefox and the sidebar, so I want to get them back. Look at the memory usage on this thing. THAT IS REDICULOUS. And yes, I am assuming this is all Vista's fault, lol.

I have ran all the things you guys are gonna ask...Panda Anti-Virus, anti-spyware, defrag

I have 2 gigs on the way, so the memory will be upgraded in a few days.

Please see the attached screenshot and give me your opinions.

Stupid question, but did you try ccleaner?

EDIT: If so then try going in task manager and check to see which service is taking up the most RAM. And disable it. If your not sure what the service is for google it.

EDIT2: I just saw you have "yahoo toolbar" on the start menu. That can cause a lot of unnecessary "indexing" of the HDDs. Try uninstalling that.

I take it that it's running the E2140?
Ok biggest issue is gonna be that she's only got 1 gig of ram, Vista needs at least 2, with 1 gig that thing will use pagefile consistently which will in turn peg out the processor. The other issue is that its an HP which always come preloaded with a million apps that all start up when you turn the thing on, use MSconfig and kill anything she doesn't need (which will be 90% of what HP pre-installed on there.) after all that and the ram upgrade you should be fine.

Yes, as soon as you turn off some big ram hogging features, it'll run much faster

Try also to lower the mem usage by going

Services- and then turn off superfetch, and sidebar. That should lower mem usage a bit.
As for the cpu usage i dont know what could be causing 100% all the time.
Ive had vista and its never done that.
BUY 4 GIGS

And I'm sick of people like YOU coming into threads and taking everything about this stupid OS personal. You get mad at ME because Vista sucks at memory allocation? El oh El.

Well, pre-installed XP does fine for me.. but pre-installed Vista is rediculous. My laptop (dv6000) runs vista seemlessly, almost as good as my desktop, but my uncle's HP dv9000 runs rediculously slow with better specs than me.

Your best bet for this is to do a reformat and reinstall. Just get a clean copy of Vista running and you will start to like it. My brothers A64 2800/1GB/6600 ran Vista Home premium fine.. but wouldnt play games for some reason.. that computer will run it fine if you reinstall and get rid of all the crap.

You can go through with CCcleaner and stuff, but i like to just do a single sweep and do it all.

Good luck
