ubuntu 64 and Opera

Anyone have any luck getting Opera working properly in Ubuntu 64? I installed it today and think I am going to like it better than FF. I have just not been able to get flash player to work(this is a deal breaker for me).

I tried the same script that got flash working in FF but no luck.

I would love to get Opera working as I have never been totally satisfied with FF and its derivatives.

Hm... The Flash installer actually doesn't work in 64-bit Linux. It's kinda stupid, since all you should have to do is put one of those files in the browsers' plugins folders.

I'm not sure where the file goes in Opera, though.

Check the package manager and see if there's some kind of replacement for flash. There should be; I've used them, but not on Opera.

Gnash is a Flash replacement, but compatibility with many Flash animations (including YouTube) is broken.

Try nspluginwrapper.

Thanks Gunner,

I took the file and wrapper that the script put in my FF plugins folder and copied it over to the opera plugins folder but still no luck.

The replacement is called gnash but am hesitant using it for two reasons: 1) havent heard much good about it and 2)am worried it may screw up my working flash player in FF.

I am willing to try gnash if anyone has tried it with success.

A new version of Gnash was recently released. I am currently using it with 32 bit Ubuntu and has performed admirably.

I have nspluginwrapper in my /lib and /bin but am not sure how to get them to "apply" to Opera

It should be enough to copy the libflashplayer.so file (from the flash player install folder) into wherever it is that Opera keeps its plugins, then use nspluginwrapper:

Code:
sudo nspluginwrapper <location of libflashplayer.so>

Thanks Melcar,

Tried that, now at least opera doesn't crash when i visit flash sites(as it was before) but it still doesn't work. If I mouse over the bottom bar reads "click to activate and use this control" but clicking does nothing.

Try launching Opera from the terminal and then launch a flash animation. If there is anything wrong the terminal should tell you.
