yea i googled it ...makes me wonder why they put them on the chip in the 1st place?
...and since they do, why not make them easier to get off lol

But even that wont solve my problem I seriously considering RMAing this CPU to AMD and demanding a CAA9G or better yet an AAA9G....but I'll just prolly stay with 3.0ghz, unless slappin a ton of chipset voltage on solves my problems....I'll try that tonight I just can't figure out how I so easily got to 3Ghz and then hit a vcore wall.

Dammit someone give me a rep point for tryin so hard...... I just hate that lil blue square lol

Well you can mark this as resolved....I went back to the Tom's hardware guide he used 1066Mhz RAM so I went to the Corsair memory configurator and even though my 6400 RAM is compatible with my mobo it is not recommended for OC-ing...at least not by Corsair.

They had 3 compatible memories the PC(6400), the PC(8500) and get this the PC(10,000)
the 6400 was 89$ the 8500 was 114$ and the 10,000 is (LOL) 459$ even Corsair broke it down like this: 6400 = enthusiast... 8500 = overclocker... 10,000 = insane person
so I guess Ill be gettin some 8500 RAM :/

...and before anyone sez: Hey I got it with PC(6400) RAM....keep in mind I'm talking ONLY about Corsair RAM.

P.S. kudos to EXODUS...guess what the PC(8500) has EPP the PC(6400) doesn't! Thats what I get for trying to save a measly 25$

nice ghode i would've suggested getting my memory, it's pc9200 stock 1150. i was able to post at 3.58 last night, 299x12 but it's not stable no matter what, i'm thinking memory though so i'm gonna tweak and see if i can get 3.6 out of it.

They are ez to remove.

There are many softs in the Downloads section
On the Crosshair, the SB needed more voltage as the OCing exceeded 3200ish. Even though the RAM was at near stock speeds errors in Orthos were present, the SB voltage increase resolved them.
Some RAM sub timings can help too.
Async: 6-9 (8 seems to work well)
Trfc: 105 or 127.5
TRC: 22-26

yea i tried the chipset voltages too...its gotta be the RAM dont have enough headroom for the OC....this BIOS has a tool for savin BIOS settings to floppy I got like 15 saved so far lol...I just ordered the pc8500 RAM today so itll be here by Tuesday prolly then Ill just load the one that lasted the longest at 3.2ghz and see what happens....only reason I linked to prime95 25.5a is that i was trying to find it before I started this and all I cud find was version 24.X
Anyways I think the extra RAM headroom will help with the stability...we'll know Tuesday ..at least on Corsair RAM
Other thing i noticed about the PC6400 I was usin was no EPP and NO SLI ready ;/

The suggestions you guys gave all helped a LOT...but there like a vcore wall for some reason on this setup...I'm seriously hopin it aint the 5000 but RAM instability thats causin it....even that THG article used 8500 RAM. its only 109$ for 2gb at newegg right now....

Spear I think ur right too...the chips they removed the IHS from were NOT like these AMD chips....they seem a lot cleaner where they affixed the IHS to the core.

I even went to the Corsair configurator and they even recommended PC8500 for OC-ing,
I dont know how I missed that the first time :/

To be completely honest....I like the black heatsheilds better than the gray ones on the 6400 lol

yea i tried the 6-8 Async the 105-127 which in my BIOS is 0-3 and the trc from 22-26 also I got copies of all those settings on a floppy so it shud go a lot faster this time...thx to you guys excellent advice.

Side note: how the h*ll could an overclocking site go "down" lol? This morning east coast time Overclock.net was down for like 3 hours lol

You'd think that OC experts sites wouldnt go down

If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna get some company to build a true OCers mobo RAM and CPU that has a BIOS like this:

only 4 settings in BIOS: normal fast faster and oh my gawd
post #30 of 39
umm, you don't need pc-8500. did you ever try dropping your ram divider and what were you ram speeds at when you were running the 3.2 OC
