Vcore inexplicably fluctuating by 0.1V

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I'm in the process of overclocking my E6750 (G0 stepping) and have come across a little oddity:

This morning I left voltages alone to see how far I could overclock, got FSB to 400 stable. Vcore was fluctuating between 1.28 and 1.29v (versus default of 1.35v).

Then I played around with the voltages, set vcore manually. Obviously vcore followed where I set it.

Then I decided to go back to my stable o/c at 400mhz, set all the voltage controls back to auto... but this time vcore is fluctuating around 1.37-1.39v.

In other words under absolutely identical bios settings, this morning my vcore was 1.29v and this afternoon it's 1.39v.

Insight anyone?

Hi and welcome to OCN. Please fill out your system specs here: http://www.overclock.net/usercp.php

What you are experiencing is called Vdroop and is a normal thing to most motherboards. You said you set vcore to auto, always manually set it to the value you want, auto setting can and does give random results, especially when overclocked as its trying to guess how much vcore you need.

instead of auto, try manually setting it to 1.35 if you want it back there, and it will vdroop down to the original voltage. i dunno if auto on some mobo's try and guess the correct voltage for OC'd processors... i hope not tho lol
