Best cooler out there

Thread Starter
So I attached my old Zalman VF-700 ALCU on my 8800 GT and temps are still pretty dismal.

Idle 52C
Load 78C

Stock Idle was 58C (with fan at 35%)
Load 80C

The thing I like about the VF-700 ALCU is that it was future proofed. If I wanted to I could use it on my 8800 GT.

What is the best cooler out there now ?

So looking at my baseline temps in the OP, what kind of temps can I expect?

I'm sorry, but the person who said HR03GT is wrong. Its obviously the Thermalright HR 03 GT WITH A FAN! It takes up 3-4 slots tho x_x. A 1-2 slot solution is a DuOrb which many people are having success with.

That is something that cannot be summed up into just one product when it comes to GPU cooling.
If you want the absolute lowest temps (on air) the the Thermalright is a perfect choice. However, it is almost ridiculous how much space it takes up and how heavy it is, especially with a fan attached.

The Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 V2 is also a very good choice when it comes to having the coolest GPU, and with the Turbo Module (the fans, ) installed it still takes up less space than the HR03GT. In a lot of reviews I've even seen this sucker cool absolutely on par with the much more expensive Thermalright+fan.

From what I gather, the Zerotherm Hurricane HC92 Cu is quite a good cooler as well, but it's also a behemoth.

If you have to have a 2 slot cooling solution though, your choices are quite limited.

The Thermalteke DuOrb would be my first choice here as it has proven to supply greatly increased cooling over the stock unit at a (now) low price (about $35) and it looks trick too.

The Zalman VF1000 or newer GV1000 is a very good unit as well, but it will cost you more than the Thermaltake eventhough it will run around 1-2C hotter than a DuOrb in some tests that I've seen. But that margin is negligible and if you like the Zalman's look better then it's a solid choice.

For the 8800 GT in particular the EVGA Akimbo cooler is also a very good solution, as it really helps cooling over the stock cooler and it's a breeze to install too.

I read the reviews and have a question for my possible setup.
my rig: Antec p182, XFX Nvidia P5N-D (I think?), Two 8800gt (soon to be SLI), 2 120mm fans pulling in and 2 120mm fans pushing out (one top, one back)
I want to try the Thermalright hr 03 gt for both cards (one mounted on top and the other mounted revers to make them both fit.

My question is this: would my airflow I have going be enough to effectively cool the heat syncs for both cards? My guess would be that the top would cool nice, but the bottom would run hotter because its not in a direct airflow. To fix this I would prob use a PCI slot cooler (I should still have room) or antec spot cooler.

I choose this for it's cost savings and with just a low fan setting it seemed to chill the card very well. Anyone see any flaws with this setup?
