Well I had this problem a while back with an unstable overclock.

An unstable overclock can cause the cpu to work incorrectly and would decrease my score.

You cooling is not good enough for 3.6Ghz if you hit 66 during 3dmark.

I've used as much as 1.9v but that was on my 680i since they run WAY cooler than intel chipsets the most I can run now is MAyBe 1.7

Is your CPU overclocked? 3DMark06 is heavily CPU-bound with many of the new high-end cards.

Ok on the comments so far . My last several runs on 3DMARK06 were using the 174.12 drivers. and have tried 169.25 can anyone recommend a better driver for 64 bit vista?

Also Would a older BIOS version lower my scores? I still have the the BIOS my 780I came with in jan. which is 2.053.B1

I am also really wondering if the factthat I am running 64 Bit vista is the limation I notice microman and several others with 20, 21,000 3dmark06 scores are running only 32 but XP , with my current hardware maybe 64 bit vista is slowing things down alot compared to how it would run on just 32 bit XP?

Possible solution? I would like to partition my HD its 500 GB ! but PM8 and nothing else still avail that will part a NTSF 7 If I could put a seperate bootable partition on my HD with 32 bit XP then I could really see what kind of scores I could get with my hardware compared to running on the 64 bit vista part.

Other then Halo 2 which I already beat all the other highend games run on 32 bit XP so I could stick to running those games on the XP partition. I bought the system with 64 bit Vista OS looking down the roadwhen we finaly get more 64 bit games out there but for now i didnt realize running in 32 bit compatibility on 64 bit Vista would slow everything down perhaps ithas im thinking this is the weak link to higher scores for me.

I would bench on XP. You will see 18K. I wish I could hit 18K with my G80's.

I'm told with my sytem I should be able to break 18, 19K on 3dmark06 but still no luck.

I am using evga 780I mobo, Q6600 @ 3.6 ghz, 4 gb RAM 800mhz, evga 8800 GTS 512s in SLI, 1100 watt power supply.

The only thing different I see is I am using Vista 64 bit and have tried everything to get RivAtuner and ATI tool to work with no luck.

So I am using the Nvidia Control panel to adjust clock speeds I havbe tried several combinations, it does seem to affect my BM scores using nvidia control panel the best BM settings without crashing seem to be with OCto 770 MHz , 1100 mem speed and 1950 shader but Still my 3DMARK06 BMs are in the lower 17.000's .

What else can I do to break 18-19K ???
780 cores on the 512's did wonders for me. All others are correct in this case when they state too high a core will ruin higher scores... What OC with the quad? nice system BTW... have you tried rivatuner as your overclock utility? You can then adjust the shader clock seperately.

I have tried and tried to get Rivatuner to work I addedthe G92 line, i disabled driver signing after allthat Ifinaly got Riva to work but guess what my 3dmark06 scores went even lower! tolike the 15k's !~using the Nvidia control panel setting the GPU clock 700-770 Mhz range, them mem clock around 1100 and shaders 1900-2000 I get mid 17000's regardless of setting.

Again I am running EVGA 780I mobo Q6600 proc, OC in bios to 3.6 ghz, 1.475 CPU voltage, QDR 1800 X9 multiplier 400 bus unlinked. these were best numbers I could get anything higher and my OS would not boot or crash

I agree with Stupid.

It's the clock speed on the chip holding you 'back' (if you can call 17+K that!)

Its pretty hard to break 18K at 3.6GHz no matter what chip you have. *IF* the graphics tests were coded to efficiently use all four cores on your chip, I guarantee you'd get 20K, but they're not. Certainly dual G92's are capable of it, though, for sure...

I think at this point getting 20K requires either extreme cooling (and an extreme OC) on a q6600, or one of those (mega-bank) 45nm Quads that can overclock above 4.0GHz. From what I've seen anyways...
