New Build/Upgrade 2008

Well Im selling off my old E6400 and my ancient xFx 6800GT inplace of an upgrade. So I shall list components I am keeping and then new hardware for your reviews and opinions.

Keeping:

Motherboard
- Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev 2.0
PSU - Hiper Type R 580W
Case - Lian Li PC-V1000

Buying:

CPU -
Q6600 OEM
£148.04 inc VAT
Memory - Crucial Ballistix Tracer Red 2x2GB DDR2-800 £86.94 inc VAT
GPU - BFG 8800GT OC 512MB £158.61 inc VAT
CPU HS - Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme £38.76 inc VAT
Monitor - Belinea 2225S1W 22" Widescreen £146.86 inc VAT

Total : £590.91

I have highlighted the PSU as I dont know if this will be adequate... The PSU is SLI rated for 2x 7900GTX or 2x 7800GTX 512MB so will it be good enough for 1x 8800GT and the rest of the system.

Thanks for the help guys

Looks good. Your PSU has 30A on 12v rials so is plenty of power for your rig.

I know you guys can't get everything easily in the UK, but a few quick questions:

1. You sure about that monitor? I've never heard of that company. It might be more popular in Europe?

2. Why tracers over ballistix?

3. Why BFG for your card manufacturer? And, why an 8800GT and not a G92 GTS?

I hope my answers help you help me...

1. Belinea are a European based company so no you wont get there stuff in USA or elsewhere... But they are very good monitors for the price.

2. I cant find a 2x2GB Ballistix and I want 4GB for Vista, but I am open to other sets such as G.Skill Geil OCZ so if you have any 4GB 2x2 solution that would fit the bill stat away my ears are open.

3. BFG because of lifetime warranty... No GTS because of price, I would get the Point of View GTS for £170.36 inc VAT but its only 2Yr warranty but the rest are £190+

1. Sounds good then.

2. I didn't realize they were cas4. If that price is okay with you, they look good to me.

3. GTS's are cheaper in the states. If those prices are the best you can do, I'd stick with the GT as well. Have you considered eVGA?

BFG a tad cheaper then eVGA not alot but anything to save a quid... also the eVGA stock is the one thats more expensive then the OC BFG version.

Well I think Im good to go so I will be buying this week... Unless anyone has anything to add.

Why not keep the E6400 OC it to 3ghz and wait till better cpu's come in. And then spend 150 pounds on the new series CPU's instead of the q6600. I know the q6600 is a verry good cpu but the E6300 when overclocked is verry good for games and stuff.

I assume he is talking about the E8xx and Q9xx lines. It's up to you if you want to wait for them (the E8xx line is already out). If not, the next chip is Nehalem, due Q4 2008-Q1 2009

Well Im after a Quad so that would be the Q9xx line but if there not out and wont be for some time then a Q6600 is my call as Im getting fed up with the E6400.
