Custom reservior

So I am designing a custom res for my new build, and I am working out a few kinks. The container itself will be 3" diameter acrylic tubing (1/8" wall). It will be mounted either on the outside of the tower, or perhaps inside...I have yet to decide. The 2 probs I am working on are mounting brackets and some sort of dispersion nozzle for the in-flow. See, I want the liquid to enter the top and cascade down the sides of the tube, for aesthetics, and to cut down on foaming. So I am trying to figure out a way to mod a 3/8 intake nozzle to give me a cone-shaped spray (like an old garden hose) I am open to suggestions...here are some visual aides


The above pic of spray pattern is just an example. I don't want anything that would impede the flow of things, or give the pump more work...

Any type of spray head will impede flow. Also, spraying will increase foaming.

maybe spray is not the right word...I just need something to evenly distribute the liquid onto the inner walls of the tubing. Imagine a cone at the top of the spire that the water would hit the tip of and spread to the base of the cone, (this is getting harder to explain...)

I understand... and that will cause some restriction. Anything that keeps the water from flowing is impeding it. Direction change means loss of momentum. How much and will it matter? I don't know.

Ugh. Heres a drawing that might help here....the pump needs no extra effort, the hoses are in no way blocked...it just spreads the liquid taht FALLS on the "spreader" from above.

I get what you're saying here. Rather than just having the water "fall" as a stream into the RES, you want the cone to push the water to the walls of the reservoir, eliminating foaming etc.

I can see how this would work. This might be difficult to do though. It would be tough to get that precise of measurements working correctly, and it would also depend on how hard your pump is pushing.

Currently the Pump is a Swiftech MCP350 pushing through a DD cpu block and a Zalman 8800 block and a '77 Bonneville Heater core.

Hrmm. I wish I could tell you for certain whether it's a good idea or not, but it seems fine to me. I don't think you need a spray nozzle or anything. That would certainly restrict flow. You might as well just run the hose right up to about a few centimeters above the cone. This would just drop the water right on the spreader and let it do it's job.

Your spreader is going to have to have precise measurements if you want it to do what you plan on having it do. It can't be too close to the shell of the res, or water will get backed up and then you'll end up restricting flow, but it can't be too far away from the shell of the res because then it won't be doing it's job and it will just drop the water in the res normally.

AGAIN.... That still causes restriction. Any change in direction will lead to the loss of momentum. The loss won't be much though if designed well.


When the molecules hit the cone, they bounce around. Most bounce at a shallow angle and follow the flow. However, some will bounce at a steep angle and go against the flow.
