I've said this before but here goes, if you are some who just sets it and forgets it hen the E but if you like to tweak then its the Q all the way. I've had both my E went to 4569mhz but was to fragile for me so I kept my Q which I can abuse all day and night and it loves every second of it

Flip a coin... lol. Thats the trouble I am having, their prices really are not significantly different so cost is not an issue. I most likely wont be tweaking or overclocking the system I will build, because I am to hesitant to do it (i know.. im a sissy...)

If it goes down to just the CPU's themselves, most programs out right now are written for dual core.... not many for quad core... but eventually more will be written for quad core to take advantage of the extra performance.... so if it is a matter of flipping a coin between the two.... my head hurts....

well if you do 3D, digital art whatever editing movie go for a quad if you only use small application and games go for dual.

I mean autodesk software use quad core and its a great thing its work so good, Zbrush 3.1 use quad core and its always stressing them because you can sculpt 20 millions of tris in real times.

if you buy either of these CPU's and don't OC it would be such a waste you must OC even if its only a small one

Whichever you get...overclock it

They aint worth the money @Stock speeds...nothing is

If your new to OC'ing, go for the Q6600 - It'll put up with more abuse and give an easier overclock, the E8400 is very sensitive

a quad all the way. I had an e8400 for a while that would only overclock slightly better than my e6600. Would hit 4.2 instead of 4.0. I would just get the q6600.

Not going to overclock? You want it for gaming? The E8400 hands down then.
