Issue with 780i and QX9650

Thread Starter
Hello all,

So I recently purchased a second 8800GTS G92 with a 780i SLI motherboard (both EVGA) from NewEgg. At first, I thought I had an issue with both the GPU and the MoBo, so I ordered another of each, this time from TigerDirect. I received both parts, and though the GPU has been working flawlessly (SLI FTW), I have had a problem with the 780i. Whenever I try to boot with my QX9650, one of two things will happen.

• I will get a blank screen, with no beeps from the board. This usually happens twice before I am able to successfully restart.

• I can successfully boot into Windows, however I first get this screen:
"Now System is in Safe Mode, Please reset CPU or Memory frequency in the CMOS setup". Though, whenever I try to put the Computer on standby, I cannot wake it from sleep.

I called EVGA, and they told me to just ignore the issue ...I then decided to try coupling the MoBo with my Q6600. With the different CPU, I have absolutely ZERO issues. Odd, because on my P35-DS3R board, I had no issue with the CPU; I'm also using the P03 bios, which seem to be the latest.

So pretty much, I'm placed in quite the bind. I can either use my Q6600 flawlessly, or use my QX9650 which will boot 1/3 the time, and when it does, will not work 100%. Any and all help/advice to resolve this issue is appreciated! Thanks guys!

Hmm....When you install your QX9650 have you tried the CMOS battery method? Boards can be funny like that....the bios you are using is the latest as far as i'm aware

Yeah, I've tried removing for a while (30 minutes). Maybe I should remove it for longer. It's really strange, because seating the Q6600 did not require a CMOS restart...so weird.

If you did as long as 30mins then it's definately a Bios issue. But saying that, i have seen many ppl using a QX9650 @4Ghz+ with that board and the same Bios release.

With your QX9650 in, try removing 2x Dimms....i know it sounds odd as 8GB works with a Q6600, but it could be a weird issue with 8GB and that chip.

I've had 2 different EVGA boards and neither of them liked a 333 fsb. I get the same message that you do. Overclocked fsb and no issues.
I don't use standby, so I can't help you there.

I haven't tried overclocking it yet, it would be really funny if that remedied my problem. I'll try when I get home. Did you have the blank reboot issue or w/e as well?

Oh yeah, I need should've mentioned I'm only using 1 DIMM right now (the sig still needs an overhaul as well, but I'll have all 4 cards in there when this issue isn't working). However, all 4 worked with the Q6600 anyway. Maybe I'll try different slots. I only tried using the leftmost slot. Thanx.
