Good temp For Q6600?

Thread Starter
Hey guys I have just built my system and I am a little concerned about my idle temps of 51c on my Q6600. Is this a normal temp or is it high? and should I adjust my stock Heatsink? BTW: I used stock thermal pad on the heatsink

Wow, Idling at 51C? yes, that is definitely too high. At 3ghz 51C should be the load temperature even on air cooling. Make sure you are using the latest coretemp version to see the temperatures of each individual core, and If they're still that high I would suggest using some AS5 and doing a reseat. Also, what are you using for voltage on the core?

I'm sorry but I have to question the validity of this. There are so many things that need to be taken into account, and even then it's a rare occasion to find a Q6600 running at 51C at full load on air. Things like ambient temp, thermal paste, HSF... they all have to be taken into account.

I did some pretty intensive testing w/ my Q6600 and compared my results to those of MANY in the original SLACR G0 thread, and found that my temps were pretty much on par with others, give or take 3-5C. I was hitting about 70C on all four cores on full load at 3.2GHz. Keep in mind my ambient is 78F (about 26C), and this is the only reason I'm not running 3.6GHz.

Deliriousgtx: I'm going to have say that around 50C on stock cooling, depending on your ambient temperature in the room, is relatively normal.

Wow now you got a problem sir. Whats your ambient ?
change the stock heatsink for a thermalright 120 ultra extreme and use AS5 for the TIM

I recommend you to get this with a 120mm fan:

I strongly recommend reading through this thread: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...thread-29.html

I linked you to page 29 (assuming you're on the forum default for posts per page). This is around the area where people started posting their OC results with the Q6600 when we first got them. You'll see temps anywhere from the low/mid 60's to upper 60's/low70's, but as both myself and Jeez mentioned, ambient plays a crucial role in temps.
