Meh, I would never turn it on whether I paid for it or not. I'll do it myself, thank you very much. I like to know what's being installed and make my own decision on if I need it.

pirated Vista with SP1 pack is also released. it seems KB940510 work around has already been applied at OS installation level. the system do not download or install KB940510 with auto update on.

at this point, KB940510 is not a big threat to the pirated Vista as it doesn't disable OS functionality automatically. Not to mention its also voluntary. I am surprised MS didn't introduce something more effective against OEM bios emulator hack already. I mean they have been around for almost a year....

It detects pirated OS's, so do you think that the machines in stores that detect clothing tags and prevent shoplifting are mindless as well?

I turn autoupdate off because I don't want it randomly installing things when I'm playing a game 0.o

no actually, because with that situation someone grabs you and gives you a nice little ride downtown.

where as this update just tells you your doing something illegal, and other then that it does nothing.

I turn auto up-date off myself and don't worry about things getting messed up. I have dial up so I do my downloads manually. Auto update has bad timing, I am usually playing a game or watching a movie when it pops up and it just ruins it for me, and again dial up it takes forever so what I do is look up the updates it wants me to have and review them. then download them at work on high speed internet.

I have auto update turned on and it's no big deal with gaming I just use this then I install them when I not playing.
Just check the box,
(Download updates but let me choose whether to install them)

And for those using a bogus copy, just buy it because it's nice knowing you have a legit copy and you don't have to worrie about this crap.

Those who have pirated copies should have them disabled, and not just some message appear.

I don't care if people say it's not worth the money, it's breaking the law and it's not that hard to find a PC in store to play around with it before buying.

Some people have genuine issues with Vista, but i believe most people bash Vista because apparently it's cool. In the words of The Offspring, it's "cool to hate".

Vista had a lot of issues at the start, and i did prefer XP. But after running Vista for a few weeks and installing SP1, i think it's a lot more stable, secure and efficient.

I 2nd that motion. Vista has really dropped in price lately down with the Pirates of the Netibbean.
