What is the difference in motherboards?

What is the difference besides price in motherboards that are from the same company, with the same chipset, but one has heatpipe cooling on the NB/SB/Mosfets?

I notice the ones with basic heatsinks on the Mobos cost upwards of $100 less than their heatpipe counterparts.

In terms of maximum performance is there any difference between these boards other than the heatpipes? Maybe higher quality capacitors and all those fun components?

Better capacitors, better PCB components in general can help stability, better quality of the PCB itself, there's lots of differences that aren't easy to tell just by looking.

BIOS options are also sometimes a big part of the price and advantage of a higher end board.
