Hrmm e2180 or e2200?

Thread Starter
Hello im looking for a proc under 100 for my first overclocking project this weekend and looks like I've got it down to the e2180 and the e2200 it seems as if the e2200 would be my proc of choice but ive read the e2180 can overclock better on the right mobo heres a quick shakedown of what I'm working with.

Current proc is a smithfeild pent d 2.66 DC, eww
p5n-E 680i SLI mobo from asus
650W rosewill PSU
2g ballistix ram from crucial
2x silent 8600gts ausus
Scyth Ninja 2.0 heatsink (huge)
all air cooled by 3 120's and 2 80's

My current CPU was basicly free and not a good overclocker seeing as it locks up 2 mhz over stock fsb witch is like 533 lol so either way im sure any chip would be a great improvement. I would like to gather some facts on both chips pretty soon i think i will be ordering it sometime tommrow afternoon if im confident enough in one of the 2 chips

Thanks in advance

Not much difference between the two really. I'd pay six or eight dollars for the multiplier if you're OCing, but if not or if it's more than that...

i thought people were finding the e2200 to run much hotter than the 2180's

if you can find a good stepping 2180 just grab it, it will teach you how to find a processors limit with difficulty =)

however if keeping your current mobo you will need the highest multi as i dont think you can hit 400 -500 fsb

If you plan on purchasing the Pentium Dual Core series, get it from Clubit.com. I think their slashing prices every week. Just last week the E2160 was $71.99 but now its $66.99! By the time 4/20 comes around I think going to be alot cheaper.

Heres the list of Pentium Dual Core procs: http://www.clubit.com/product_browse...%20Dual%20Core

Dont know why the E2140 is a buck more than E2160.
