Is the QX9650 overkill for me?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am currently running the setup in my sig. Recently I had the opportunity to purchase a QX9650 at a good price. It was an impulse buy.

I use my computer for gaming, video editing, and photoshop. I don't know if this is even a valid question but is the QX overkill for my application? Will I gain performance that warrants the price tag that the QX commands?

I'm considering just putting it for sale on ebay and use the money for other components.

any and all opinions welcome.

If you have the chance to buy a QX at less than retail, I would definitely jump on it and then sell the E6700.

Well, you edit videos and game, so why not at least get a quad?

If you don't plan on overclocking, sell it and pick up a Q6600 or one of the other 45nm quads.

Keep it if you plan on overclocking.

on another note, how do I earn rep points? Id like to pass it onto another member in this forum in the FS forum, but points do not seem to be very easy to earn.

I don't plan on overclocking at this point. But if I can get near QX performance out of my E, it would make more sense to overclock the E and sell the QX

IMO, the Qx isnt overkill performance wise but cost wise the performance doesnt justify that price tag. Id sell it then buy a q6600/e8400 and then get a new vid card, such as the 3870x2 or sli some G92 gts/gt

And to get rep you need to earn it by helping out other members.

Does video editing include encoding? That is, are you the person in charge of creating the master DVD?

I think a Q6600, a nice P35/x38 board and 3870 CF or a 780i board with G92 GTS SLI seems to be the best of your money.

To be honest, I never saw the value in Core 2 Extreme processors because you can always achieve the same performance just by overclocking. Even if Extreme processors do come with unlocked multipliers, who the hell wants to risk screwing up a $1000 processor?

The way the REP system works is by earning it by helping out members or by posting computer related news.
