[thetechdon] Tiny Huge 1 Terrabyte Optical Disk

post #1 of 13

Quote:
It is called the TeraDisk and it is really small, like a ordinary CD/DVD. But it’s really huge in terms of space. 1 TB (1000 GB). How can this be done? The process is easy (or not). All existing optical media record data on semitransparent layers. A regular CD has 1 layer and a Blu-Ray disk has up to 8. The reason nobody can add more layers on a regular CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disk is because when the light passes through these layers it becomes distorted and by the time it reaches the final layers it becomes almost impossible to read/write on the disk
Source

Lol, with this who needs Blu-Ray?

I seriously don't care for things like this...How many other times have companies tried to pioneer large amounts of space that they proclaim as being "The future" then we never hear from them again after that.

When we start seeing your product on store shelves in packs of 50 for about $10-$15, then you can make all the proclamations you want. Until then, **** because your ideas are impractical and overly expensive to take off. SSD and VCD are a prime example of what I mean.

1024GiB = 1 TiB

1000GB = 1TB.

GB is used as the meaning of 1 billion bytes by storage manufacturers. GiB is 2^30 bytes.

Dude, they were expensive, lol.

My dad had an epic PC then. Pentium II 450 with 256mb of RAM and a CD burner, Think I might have still had a Pentium 90 at that point, but it had a turbo button .

IIRC this was around 1996/1997.

probably the pentium 90, my p133 with 32mb ram was $2700 fall 1995....
256mb ram? i don't think so.

i also think this is vaporware....they just tell investors that they can sell it for cheap (if they can get enough of them they can, but it's not likely)
