Bizarre problem. Please Help!

After re-installing XP Pro on my Thinkpad, now my laptop and desktop will not talk at all on the network. They can't ping each other by name or IP. They are both part of the same workgroup. I don't understand what could have possibly happened just by re-installing XP. Everything was working just fine before hand. I have been file sharing and printer sharing for months with no issues. My setup is as follows:

1 XP Pro machine
1 Vista Ultimate machine
WRT54GL wireless router

It's not firewall because that's the first thing I look at. Can someone please give me some ideas here?

you need to make sure the file and printer sharing service is installed, also client for microsoft networks needs to be installed, if one of these removed itll prevent your machine from communicating with the other machines on the network

you can find this in the connection properties
