Triple boot (XP/Vista/Ubuntu)

Thread Starter
Hey all, I am currently dual booting Vista/XP and would like to add Linux to the mix.

Does anyone have some guides on how to go about this under a RAID 0 configuration. I have 2x160GB WD HDD in a RAID0, 1x250GB HDD for erm, torrents...and 1x1TB HDD for storage.

My Vista partition is 200GB and my XP partition is 100GB, both on the RAID array. Im going to reduce the partition size for the Vista partition to put Ubuntu on. Any idea on how large I should make it (maybe 40GB?)?

40gb should be plenty. 2 36gb raptors have enough space for me to tri boot ( I don't use that much space though). But I'm not raiding them, so I can't help you there.

Linux has a menu item when you boot from the LiveCD to enable raid and use your Raid drivers. Happy 3x booting!

Unfortunately, I don't think this will work.

To my knowledge, Fedora is the only Linux OS that supports RAID out of the box (Suse might possibly as well; I don't remember if it does). If you try Ubuntu on your RAID array, it's just going to see two separate disks, and if you install on one of them, your RAID will be split up and your data lost.

You can use DMraid-http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=630644

I just used this on my computer and have Vista and Gutsy running well together. You would most likely be able to add XP to the grub mix as well. Ask me if you have any questions reguarding grub or this setup, id be happy to help
