what are people going to do with 20 gigs anyways? its not like they can do more than just downlaod demos, videos, and streaming. the most i would see it being used for is saved games, patches, cheats, and music.what more can be done on a console? yes, like the ps3 is a console that can be expanded and used for everything else...but what more than the ps3's abilities? just like a pc? IMO i think not.

I guess just music mostly. I personally don't come close to using up the 60GBs on the PS3. Once I play a demo I delete it. Once I watch a trailer I delete it. All my music/videos/pics are kept on an external. And the 360 doesn't install any files before you play, so I'm not sure what else people need all that space for.

i totally agree with you. you just put my words into simpler ways... a console is nothing more that for games of entertainment from the wii to the 360.. to the extent of the ps3's usability.

Maybe but XBL does offer HD movie downloads and TV shows. If your into that then 20gb will fill up rather quickly, you also have the option of using an external hard drive. Not to mention Xbox originals for download aswell.

I think there are a couple reasons the 360 has remained DVD based.

1. The 360 was firmly established when the add-on drive became available. By integrating it, MSoft would have alienated all the people that had already thrown down cash on a console. Making both would be expensive I'll bet.

2. Having HD-DVD as an add-on limits the relationship of the format with the console. What the heck would Sony do if it was Blu-Ray that tanked? Continue producing consoles supporting an abandoned format at huge expense? Switch to HD-DVD and hope all those current owners understand the dilemna? No way. It was a bold manuever of Sony to use Blu-Ray and lucky for them it paid off. So obviously HD-DVD tanked. The add-on for the 360 is now $50, stores are clearing their inventory, and the world will move on. The 360 will continue on with hardly a scratch.

Also, HD DVD wasn't available at the 360's launch so having it built-in wasn't an option until Summer 2006 when even stand-alone players were scarce, which would have been a slap in the face for the 4 million consoles they had sold at that time anyway.

This is my opinion which is profound given the recent uprising of digital distribution in the past 3 years. MSFT never really backed HD DVD to the extent it could have. It seems as though they were more focused on delivering a download service that offered HD content, digital distribution, than a retail model. They've even said 'We want gamers to get used to purchasing things over XBL' and with recent news about them not supporting blu-ray compatibility within the 360 this seems more logical that we could very well be downloading full games from XBL in the future with the way DD is.
