3870x2 What do you make of this?

I was having problems with my 3870x2 that I posted in this section and I almost put the RMA through when I thought I'd give 8.3 (I was using 8.2 before) a try.

During 3DMark: Interactive (some of you call it Crysis), I was getting really choppy frame rates. Gameplay would be nice and smooth and then suddenly it would go down into the single digits for no apparent reason. During the Crysis benchmark, I noticed both cores (using RivaTuner) were jumping back and forth between 2D and 3D and GPU utilization was all over the place. Here is a screen of what I am describing:

Now after loading the 8.3s, Crysis gameplay is smooth as butter and I only get minor, yet consistant, drops of I look out to the ocean in the first level.

Here is a screen with Crysis actual gameplay @ 1920x1200 most settings high. I have marked a point where I died:

Also with 8.2, 3DMark06 would sometimes revert to a black screen. Signal but no image. Here is a log of a complete 3DMark06 run using 8.3:

A: Return to Proxycon
B: Firefly Forest
C: CPU Test 1
D: CPU Test 2
E: Doh, the water dragon thingie
F: Deep Freeze

Is this normal behavior or is something with the card actually miffed?

EDIT: My 3DMark06 score by the way is 16600. Specs in sig.

Something else wierd. If I go into the My Games list in Vista x64 and select "Play DX10" the opening scenes like the Nvidia and Intel logos are all scrambled. If I toss in the disc and click "Play Game", it works just fine.

Are you using 1.2 patch for Crysis? Theres alot of people that reports that the gpu slowdowns is fixed when using 1.2 with Catalyst 8.3.

Crysis is patched with 1.2 and for clarity, I'm using 8.3. The random slowdowns for me have been completely fixed. I didn't think of it until now but I'll do another run while logging CPU usage. I think these spots in 3DMark where the GPU utilization is lower I will find the CPU is pegged.

Yea. The GPU doesn't do much during the CPU Test 1 and 2. That should be completely normal.

The other drops seems to be between test when loading. Otherwise I think that the GPU usage is normal.

Fired up Bioshock to see how the 3870x2 was behaving and wow! In Bioshock, this thing absolutely hands my GTX it's as...well you know. Through hallways/corridors, I'm getting well over 100fps at 1920x1200 with all in-game settings pegged.

Amazing. Cant wait to complete my build and then Ill rerun every game just for the joy of playing games with max settings.

Is it to much to ask about screenshots.

Just tried Dirt at 1920x1200 visuals set to "Ultra". Getting an average between 35-40 which is quite honestly what my old E6750 @ 3.6 8800GTX SLi was getting. Dirt suprisingly is multithreaded and maybe I didn't have the best drivers on the GTX's? Who knows...I'm starting to love this card!

What kind of screens?
