Your Overclocking results will depend mostly on the processor that you have, its VID value and the MotherBoard that you will be using.

Low VID values of the processor allow you to reach a higher speed at lower temps and correspondingly lower voltages.

I run mine 24/7 at 3.7GHz on 1.300v set in the Bios, CPUz shows 1.296v under load and 1.31v at idle. This has been Primed 95 for 10h.

I cant even tell my PC is on when folding at 3ghz with a 680i board.
If you're keeping the quad it pays to have a more quad friendly motherboard.
My 780i board it can happily fold at 3.9ghz
post #23 of 50
Well, it depends on the CPU. I cant get 3.6Ghz stable with 1.5V.

Mine reads 1.39v (CPUID) @3.6Ghz; that is my 24/7 setup.

Well... I got the CPU in going to start overclocking it. If I can't get to 3.6.. 3.4 will be my goal. I just don't feel like buying a 780i at the moment.

I am saving up for Nelham so this CPU is probably the last thing I buy until that comes out. I was on vacation when the stepup for the 780i board was in effect so i missed it

1.55 actually.

My B3 took 1.5v (1.48 actual) for 3.6

But on a G0 probably about 1.425-1.45 maybe?

Just keep in mind that the board will need more SPP then it did with the dual core, so you might need to top it out at 1.5v, which is the max NVIDIA recommends. Also keep in mind the FSB hole with the NVIDIA chipset. So dont stop just because you seem to have it a wall. Go ahead and try jumping 10MHz (40 QDR) to see if you can jump it. Or lower your multi to 8 and jump way past it.

Good Luck.

Here are your CPU's Specs (max vcore of 1.5v and max temp of 71°C...it will throttle back at approx 98°C):

ill be interested in your results as i have a 680i a1 too, except im on air. I am currently messing around with 3.5 . 3.6 was working OK except for some random reboots and freezes that would occur, so i left it alone for a bit.

I have booted to windows as high as 3.84 though, and didnt crash till i stress tested.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Can someone give me some feedback? Basically my B3 refuses to post with 1600QDR and displays MP INIT on the LCD Poster, would getting a G0 solve this or do you think it's just a matter of voltage tweaking?
Try increasing the FSBv and or vcore. MP INIT = MultiProcessor Initializing failure.

*Does your mobo have GTLv options? If not use the FSBv, as they will be linked.

I am running 1.47vcore- no droop on my G0 @ 3.7ghz [412*9], highest FSB stable= ~470-480mhz

with my B3- 1.30vcore- no droop @ 3ghz [430*7], highest FSB stable= ~460mhz
