I think the problem here is, Nvidia really messed up the naming.

The 8800GT and the 8800GTS (G92) should have been the 8900GT and 8900GTS. Then the 9850GTX and the 9800GX2 should have been the 8900GTX and the 8950GX2.

The 9800GTX isn't a bad buy if you don't yet have a DX10 card as it seems like it will be priced competitively. However there is no point in upgrading to the 9800 series if you already have a 8800 series card. I think Nvidia really confused people with their horrible naming structure.

I'm going to wait before pulling the trigger on the graphics upgrade. My X1900XT 256MB is still putting up a good fight, and to be quite honest, 90% of the standard benchmark games interest me very little, if at all. I'm having more fun maxing Sins of a Solar Empire with my X1900XT than I would maxing another generic shooter just to prove a point.

QFT

I have been wondering since it was announced that they would be 9800s as to why they weren't 8900s.

Hell, I was wondering why the 8800GT and 8800GTS 512 weren't the 8900 cards.

Marginal improvements FTL? This card will be a great buy for someone upgrading from the 7 series, but 8 series..........I wouldn't dare.

I wouldn't even upgrade from my 7900gto, just because NVIDIA called this card 9800gtx and not 8900gtx. I mean think about all these n00bs who are going to buy this card now because they think it will be better than their 2 g92's in sli. I'm definitely going to wait for a 4870 from ATI...

Really, AA does become rather useless at higher resolutions.

IF I ever use it, I never use more than 2x. AF, eh, It's good for what it does, but a marginal increase if you ask me. Neither are worth the performance drop in Crysis.
