AMD Phenom 9500 not overclocking more than 2.5ghz

Thread Starter
I was overclocking and first came across a stumbling block where i couldnt hit 2.5GHZ. I soon realised it was due to my RAM Timings so i set these to auto and i hit 2.5GHZ nicely. I then tried hitting 2.6GHZ and my system keeps rebooting at the "Welcome to Windows" screen on boot up. My current FSB is at 227 (Default FSB @200) and Ram is at 908MHZ (Default 800MHZ) but ive seen many people hit higher just not sure why mine isnt......

Any ideas what gives? I have a few possible ideas which ill mention
1) Motherboard (Its a 580 Chipset)
2) Power Supply
3) Cooling/overheating (@2.5GHZ i experience no overheating issues)

Other than that i have no idea and i leave my troubles in your hands to find a solution for me

I have also got CPU-z screens and the are below. My system is in my sig so you can see it as well

Here are the pics

Cache

Well thats it, any further info please ask ahead

Not surprising. Most phenoms don't overclock that well at all. You should feel lucky you got any overclock out of it tbh... I don't mean to bash you, but that's the truth. Maybe an AMD overclocker can help you squeeze a bit more out.

What are the other people that can OC their Phenoms using for motherboards? Are they using the newer chipsets?

Ive read people hitting 3GHZ+ on the 9500 so im not sure where you are getting that info...... There is another thread here of a siilar stature but not the same hence why i decided to start a new thread but it is overclockable. Ive read elsewhere people hitting 3.2GHZ but temps get far too high on stock cooling.... and it also becomes unstable after 3GHZ. But yeah 3GHZ is attainable. As for the Mobo others use i will look this up now and let you know

Some have 570 Chipset, 590 and 790 chipset. But to those doubting the Phenom can hit 3 GHZ a guy on this forum is running close @2.8GHZ check link below

http://www.overclock.net/system.php?i=18862

So any ideas what it could be? maybe i need to increase the voltage? though ive been told at this early stage i shouldnt need to but then again they have not OC'ed a Phenom before.....

So any ideas guys?

Defective 3rd core that dies at at any speeds past 2.4ghz. This is why the Tri-cores are coming out (same proc with bad core deactivated.). It sux, sorry.

I guess you could deactivate said core (somehow) and that should open it up to OCing...

The L3 cache eratta is usually the issue if memory serves me correctly with the B2 Phenoms.
Frankly, I've never even heard of a core issue... only that its a cache issue.

Yes some will excede the alleged 2.6 barrier and some OC well, but there are few and far between...
Hopefully that won't be the case wit the B3 65nu or B4 45nu revisions

So basically this is as far as i can take this CPU in terms of OC'ing? Well thats sux...... After reading the great results others were getting i kinda hoped that i could hit them speeds too. So its definately NOT the 3 things i stated in my initial post that i assumed could be the issue?

What is you Hyperthread at? (I believe thats what its called) I know that AMD uses that and that most of the time stock Hyperthread is around 1000mhz and it gets upset at speeds much higher than that. There should be a multiplier for the HT and try to keep it at or around 1000mhz

well mate truth be told from what i can see you need more volts, but im not sure what those can take, you need an amd man to help on that and dont listen to 3rd core fault and rubbich like that. and its a phonem they dont over clock. at the end of the day they were sold to run at a said speed anything else is just a bonus id say 2.7- 2.8 is attainable for you with some more volts.
