I configured mine as follows:

RAID0 array - 100 GB primary partition (25 GB from each drive)
RAID5 array - 375 GB partition (3 x 125 GB + 125 GB parity on 4th drive)

a lot of it has to do with the intel controller and write back caching enabled. only guess I can say is they cache to ram rather then to the hard drive with that enabled but I can't say for sure. either way burst speed isn't that important.

Busrt speed isn't that important, however a lot of the benchmark programs seems to be optimized for smaller stripe size.

I use a 128k stripe, which yields (what I consider to be) mediocre read scores in HDTach. If I run ATTO though, I think that the benefits of a larger stripe start to show.
