Samsung 245BW or BenQ G2400W?

Thread Starter
Alright. Opinions required. I'm in the market for a 24 inch monitor with a budget of $400 - $500.

I initially thought I would get the Gateway 24" monitor, but read too many issues with BLB.

I am now thinking either the Samsung 245BW or the BenQ G2400W. Costco currently has the Samsung for $399. $389 for the BenQ at Newegg.

Has anyone compared the two in person?

Thanks,

Tae

PS Also does anyone have any reviews or info on the new Samsung 2493HM? I'm wondering if it uses the same panel/circuitry as the 245BW except with more input options.

I haven't compared them directly, but Benq is a budget monitor, whereas Samsung makes some of the best monitors you can get. the Samsung 206bw and 22bw are very popular - and for a good reason.

Thanks for the feedback. Having been exposed to the BenQ name for awhile now, I'm not sure if I would consider them a "budget monitor". They are highly regarded when it comes to home LCD projectors. I agree that they are lesser known in the LCD monitor market.

Just an FYI. BenQ is part of a company that also owns AU Optronics. One of only handful of manufacturers that make LCD panels (Samsung, AUO, LG, and now Chimei). Samsung has been known to use AUO's panels in their own line of monitors including the 245BW. Of course circuitry also affects performance.

The BenQ has been getting some positive reviews here in OCN and in Newegg. But in general, I agree with you that Samsung is probably a higher quality brand in general.

Thanks,

Tae

The Samsung gets my vote. Although I've never used a BenQ monitor I can only say great things about Samsung panels.

While I've seen a few HP panels look as good as Samsung ones, I've never seen a BenQ up to par. Also, the RMA and quality experience with Samsung has never let me down.

I heard awhile back with input lag issues with the 245BW. Have you experienced any input lag?

Thanks,

Tae
