Which is better? (9600GT vs 8800GS)

Thread Starter
Im a budget PC gamer with an extra $180 to spend, and both cards I found are within my pricerange.

Comparison Page

I have a dilema, both are the exact same price, but I only have the cash for one.

-The core clocks are the same.
-The 8800GS's Memory clock is higher, but total MBs lower
-The 9600GT's memory interface is 256-bit compared to the 8800's 192
-The 8800GS has 96 Stream Processors and the 9600GT only has 64

So, as you can see, Im a bit confused as to which to get...can anyone help me out?

(Note, I have no real knowledge of whether or not the 9600's chipset is better for gaming or not, so feel free to edumacate me about that)

Thanks in advance!

9600GT's performance is between 8800GS and 8800GT. 9600GT is a 256bit card vs, 8800GS is 192bit card.

you can overclock the 9600GT via the PCIex bus so i'd go for that one

I would save for a 8800GTS but if that's all you got then go with the newer tech. The Overclocks roof is higher and... newer...

Id say 9600 because of the great SLi capabilities.

Well the general responce seems to be toward the 9600, so Im going to keep this open, but will most likely get the 9600.

(Please note that I dont have the cash for a second card, so no SLI for me T_T)
