You can have your opinion, and your gun. Nobody is trying to take that away from you.
Okay, I understand your perspective now. But here's my counter argument.

If I were to go to the UK, you're right, I wouldn't expect to get a shot. Well it's possible, but more rare, we can agree, right?

BUT, I read constantly in the online news sites (here in the USA) of stabbings in the U.K. I can't help but think, what if that innocent stabbing victim had a gun for self defense?

And conversely, if one looks at Switzerland, where every able bodied man owns a firearm (all 7 million) then look at their gun crime RATIO (obviously they have a lower population, so you have to look at the ratio).

And also, here's one last thing I'll say.

I would gladly give up my gun if the GOVERNMENT AND THE CRIMINALS gave up theirs.

I don't want the government (like yours) to have all the power.

I would also look at Mexico..where it is ilegal to posses most firearms (only little .22 caliber plinksters).

But, we don't need to talk about all the gun crime there.

I am a firm believer of, Outlaw guns and only outlaws will have them.

I refuse to be a victim, of both criminals AND my government.

I am not paranoid; I am a history buff and I don't want to see another NAZI Germany era.

Are you familiar with Hurricane Katrina?

The government went door to door and illegally (without warrants) confiscated all firearms from peoples homes.

Doesn't that scare you at all?

I can only think of two words...

Papers, please.

If I lived in England, I would speak softly and carry a big stick, because I couldn't have a gun.

Or, more likely, keep a stash of pinecones in my backpack.

Either way, i'm gonna keep my guns, and for good reason too. It's pretty easy for a criminal to get his hands on a gun, so I might as well have one to protect myself with.

The only time that we ever got robbed was when we lived in England, and we got a security system so that it wouldn't happen again. Then it happened again... We got robbed once when my parents weren't home, it was just my brother, sister, and I, and some guy who had stolen a ferrari was being chased by the police, and then he ran into my garage, stole some golf gloves, and ran off. lol

We ought to have some automated weapons like in metal gear solid. I'd have some cyphers orbiting my house. That would be awesome.

Unfortunately banning guns in the UK has had zero effect on gun related crime. The government tries to "fix" problems by simply taxing it, or banning it, which is then smoke-screened by propaganda and spin.

I really hate this country. I'm just silently waiting until UK's society caves in under the strain of a failing "marxist" government.

Regarding the news story at hand, it is obviously bad parenting or the child has severe mental issues that need to be addressed. Whether it was a gun, it doesn't matter. He could have used a knife or an Excalibur Sword to the same effect.

LOL, what uses does a gun have these days besides killing or defense ( from other people with guns )?!

Don't say hunting because that's a leisure activity these days, not a necessity for life.

Better yet, What purpose does a handgun serve?! A handgun is a concealed weapon mainly used for one purpose. Killing.

Wait, didn't you Brits already ban those? I'm so glad I don't live in the U.K. That country definitely isn't like it was 200 years ago.

I have an idea to stop all crime. Lock every able bodied man/women in a padded cell.

I give the U.K. 5 years until they can't even leave their own home without permission.

"People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither" - Benjamin Franklin

Not all Brits are corrupted though. I did see a video on youtube about thousands of British gun owners begging for their rights to be back.

When you have to reason with the government to get your rights BACK, you know you're screwed.

You anti gun Brit's should really take a trip across the pond. I promise my Glock will not get up on it's own and hurt you. Us 'evil gun owners' are just like you.
Lordy, stop with the ridiculous exaggerations already.

1. Stabbing 20 people is harder than it sounds. Chances are that you'll be stopped before you get to 5. It's also much harder to kill someone with a knife than it sounds.

2. So equating gun bans is the same as locking everyone up? Wow.

3. Ben Franklin. Smart guy but you can't use that logic on everything. A gun ban is far different and much less in stature than some of the very things that the USA PATRIOT act takes away. Are you crying about that? No.

Would you rather be stabbed or shot?

Would you rather have the chance of fighting back or would you like someone to simply pull a trigger to end your life?

You read about UK news about stabbings, when's the last time you heard of someone in the UK killing multiple people at a job/school/etc.? Even if you DID own a gun when someone is trying to stab you, you'd only be safe in your house. You can't carry a concealed weapon legally, and most violent crimes tend not to happen at the victims home.

You can talk about self defense all you want but the fact is that no matter what, criminals will always one-up you.
If you have a knife, they'll have a gun.
If you have a gun. They'll have an ak
If you have an ak, they'll have multiple people with ak's

Not only are criminals NOT the ones to be worried about these days, but the criminals that DO operate with weapons know when to use them...for instance when YOU DON'T HAVE ONE.

Why are you talking about Hurricane Katrina? Do you live in New Orleans? If you did, you'd know why they took the guns away.
