Athlon 64X2 4600+, OC'd to 3.0ghz ?

Mobo: Asus MSI-SLI Deluxe
Cpu : AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (2.6ghz) (heatsink stock)
Ram : 4gigs of G.Max DDR2
PSU : Apevia 680w Beastpower

ok so ive been building computers for a while and I just got some upgrades. I saw a post here about overclocking an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.6ghz processor to 3.0ghz. since I have this cpu id really like to do that but im not exactly sure how to go about it.

I saw a post on this site that had a link to this : http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=285682
thats what im hoping to accomplish. I know that I need to set the htt multiplyer to x12, set the bus speed to 250, and crank up the voltage to stabilize it. problem is im not sure what else I need to do or change to do that. if I can do what im hoping with the stock fan. Also, I have a pretty good 680w power supply so im not sure what I should set the voltage to in order to stabilize it.

Im open to any suggestions, I just dont want to fry my cpu and void the warrenty.

actually the htt x fsb should be 1000 or less

And you probably would have gotten more help posting in the AMD cpu forum instead of the Intel

My x2 4600+ just did not want to go to 3.0, but thats cause I had crappy OCZ ram. You will need a better heatsink as the voltage required are probably 1.45-1.5v on the CPU.

I couldn't get mine to 3ghz stable. It's fine at 2.94 though and I have the same proc and mobo as you.
And cravin, I've heard that a high htt of 1200-1400 can be good for OC'ing.

My X2 3600+ Brisbane has been stable for almost a year at 2703 mhz (from stock 1900mhz) however the AMD's do not particularly enjoy overclocking.

As you already have a 2.6 ghz cpu you may can get 3.0 out of it. I could not get 3.0 out of my brisbane. But I wish you luck.

Here is the highest I've had it and it would lock up
