Help with my overclock plz!

Thread Starter
so my computer was getting a bsod and i was unable to fix it. I resulted to reformatting and undoing my overclock. Now my computer is fixed and up and running, although the cpu is not overclocked yet. Conveniently enough, the person who overclocked it for me (mcogan10) is on vacation. And i am not 100% posotive on how to overclock correctly. I was wondering if u guys wouldnt mind telling me what to set my multiplier and fsb to? and all that other stuff that you need to do. I know that before i was overclocked to 4ghz and my voltage was 1.36. And this was stable. Can u tell me how to get back to that overclock. What settings should i change?

God you guys lets help the guy out. I know this whole site is filled with people that know these answers.

Happy that you are looking into overclocking!
Just a note. When you get a BSOD you dont have to reformat your hdd usually.
Just try reseting bios via cmos battery!

1. Read guides to learn!
This guide tells you tons about overclocking on your motherboard
http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ing-guide.html
Heres some more guides.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu.../oc-guide.html
http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...uides/OCguide/.

2. To start off your going to want to download a few programs.
. Orthos- stresses your cpu after you overclock to check if the overclock is stable.
http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm

. CPu-z- gives you info on the speeds of your cpu and ram.
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

. Core temp- Great for monitoring cpu temperatures.
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

3. Overclocking cpu.

Start off by reading GUIDES!
Check in bios What your current FSB speed is, memory speed, Vcore voltage and tell us.
-Then in bios set your cpu speeds and memory speeds to stock in bios.

Before i can help anymore you have to read the overclocking guides because theres just to much info and steps for me to explain here.

Also post a picture of your CPU-z speeds.

Ya i know how that feels, and sorry about that, i guess people are being selfish.
Sorry that i cant explain it all to you but there is just alot of info.

Moeny is not required. Answering questions like the ones that you have is what people on this site do.

Just a quick overview, not everything you need to know though.

Basically when overclocking a cpu, you start at the stock speed.
Then you go into bios and check the fsb speed and raise it around 20mhz or 15 mhz.

For example, say your cpu was running at 2.4ghz, and your fsb was running at 1066mhz and a vcore voltage of 1.2v. When overclocking you are trying to see HOW FAST your cpu can run before it crashes.
You would start off by upping the FSB speed around 20mhz or 15mhz and ( so now it would be 1086mhz). Thats not all but thats the type of stuff you will learn in the guides.

When overclocking remember to go slow and contantly check to see if the pc will boot to windows. Then use Orthos to stress the cpu to check if it is stable.

Also to get more guides just google, "Guide to overclocking cpu" or something like that.

It's all luck of the draw here, sometimes I get too much help on a hard topic, and sometimes I get no help on an easy topic. I might be able to help you out a little if you have any questions. Read those guides posted above (Good Job RedFox).

I'll try to keep an eye here, but keep in mind I am not very knowledgeable in the 780i Chipset Dept.

Dude with a little google search I came up with this http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ing-guide.html
Now you will need to do the rest on your own. I cannot find any reliable info on my MB so I took things into my own hands and played around in the BIOS. For instance with my old MB I would up the Vcore with a Vcore option that stated what the Vcore would be. On the MB I have now I need to up the VID and it is raised in percentages not voltage. I didn't even know where to start on this MB and no one else had this board at the time so there was nobody to ask. In short after tinkering I am now running at 500FSB stable
