Sapphire 3870x2 Problems - Page 2

I haven't yet re-seated my card - just about to. RussianGrimmReaper this is a clean install of windows with the old graphics card it was so bad I didn't install drivers for it. Also if I try the 8.3 drivers; how do you recommend I uninstall the 8.2's? Every time I've ever updated drivers before, it was with a new install of Windows as I usually reformat every 3 months and never played many games before on my previous computer's.

Uninstall drivers through Control Panel, restart, check to make sure they are removed, run driver cleaner pro, restart, check control panel that no drivers are present, run driver cleaner pro again, restart, run CCleaner, restart, run CCleaner.

I had somewhat of the same problems. I noticed it more when the temps were higher than usual, even though they were still within spec. I ended up rma'ing the card after it failed. I suggest an RMA and pray you get a better one.

Sounds like the best bet. I installed the new 8.3 drivers and Catalyst Control Center doesn't work - I just get an error message saying this application Host has to close.
Looks like I will be following your instructions to install the 8.2's again.

Well things have gone from bad to worse. I rolled back to the 8.2 Drivers and received the same "Catalyst Control Center host service has stopped working." kind of application error. So basically trying the 8.3 drivers has messed the 8.2 drivers for me lol. Also once I plugged internet back in I was having problems connecting - the computer shares my other computer's internet connection. I went downstairs to check on my internet and came back upstairs to check back on the PC i am having these problems with, to find a black screen and everything ****ed. I turned PC off and now the PC can't boot. The lights on the graphics card just flash and the fan goes from loud to quiet. Also to top my bad luck i put the wrong power connector back into the ethernet port when having internet problems and the switch blew up.
I checked on ebuyer's website (where i bought my graphics card from), and the card is out of warrent; they also request that the graphics card be in its original packaging and I think I threw the box away anyway. As CCC isn't working any more once I re-seat the graphics card I can't check to see if Ati Overdrive is available or not so have no way of knowing if the problem is fixed.
Unfortuantely today has been very counter-productive.
Any more help would be much appreciated.

Wow...just wow.

I feel for you man!

Try throwing in an alternate video card to see if you can boot. If you can somehow get the pc to post with video signal, you're on the road to recovery.

At the moment I seem to be having a lot of trouble removing this graphics card. I swear I was trying for about an hour with no luck!
Also please can can owner of the Sapphire 3870x2 tell me the significance of the lights at the back of the card. Before I had 1 red light showing at all times; what do the lights look like on your cards?
Thanks, 03kent70

Do you mean physically removing the card or drivers?

The lights have something to do with power
Not sure, but I read that in another thread.
BTW I've never noticed any lights on mine.

Finally I managed to remove the card but I had to very slightly bend the metal of the case. I then moved the hard drives and some cables and put the graphics card in the top pcie slot and its working again. Before I did this I drilled some of the metal away of the case so that I don't have the same trouble when putting the card in and taking it out again. Since I have moved the graphics card CCC has started working again and there are no lights showing once the PC is on (before I always had 1 red light showing). Also now I can access ATI Overdrive - although before I think it might have just been a matter of me not unlocking it. Unfortunately distortion is still visible on the splash screen and I haven't yet tried any games again. Now I can't get any internet on the PC any more aswell. I have tested the hardware on different PC's and it is not that. I think the CAB cleaner as part of Driver Cleaner Pro has possible messed something up. I cleaned driver.cab and SP2.cab - not really knowing what either of these things was. Please can someone tell me what these things are? (I will search on google though in a moment). Also it could be something I changed in the BIOS: I changed the something in the BiOS which said you should put yes if you have a plug and play operating system - before it was set to no. I think XP could have overwritten the ethernet drivers causing internet to not connect properly. It appears 2 problems have been fixed though and another problem with internet has arrised. So overall we have made progres

you need plug and play set to no. How about just doing a reformat? It may be easier in the long run than spending hours trying to troubleshoot the issue.
