Untill LCD/Plasma/whatever screens will give good display quality on more than one resolution I'll stick to CRT.

What do you mean when you say quality? If you mean sharpness, my 2560x1600 beats your CRT. If you mean I have less chance to break down, my stuck pixels will occur less than your burn-ins and are only temporary. If you mean true colors, then you're right, you win. Congrats on winning the only category that only graphic designers care about.

Sorry, miss read your post Why would you want to use lower resolutions than your monitor is capable of?

Just realised that OLED's will hamper these so far bogus figures.

Plasma Tv's are cool except for their burn-in issues. People say newer plasma's don't have this issue but they do. A friend of mine bought a Pioneer elite, it's looks incredible but when he pauses a tv program and leaves it for a few minutes, the directv sign stays there. Although it removes easily but it's annoying.

His GPU probably can't take the full resolution or something.

Most new "Expensive" plasma's don't have burn-in problems but still do suffer from IR "Image Retention" which could lead to burn-in, but only in extreme conditions where only one image is ever displayed. I passed on the Pioneer Elite for the same reason its IR is very evident, I went with a 55" Hitachi Directors Series for its "Wipe" Mode which resets all of the pixels..

lol. there is a way where they use salmon sperm to brighten OLED LCDs, it's creepy but cool at the same time.

I have a 42" 720p Plasma TV and love it. When I go to stores and see LCD versions of the TV, the Plasma looks better. IMO

i wouldn't say PURE black, while they have generally higher contrast ratio's than LCD's at 10,000:1, there are LCD's out there that have that same contrast ratio now, and with OLED at 1,000,000:1 i would say that plasma's are DEFINITELY going no where

In a dedicated home theater, I would go with a DLP projector.

I think lcd tv's sell more because they are cheaper and available in smaller sized. I got my 37" HD LCD tv because of the price. I also have a 15" LCD tv in the kitchen that I got a good deal on. If you count my monitor and my wife's laptop, I have 4 total. If I could afford it, I would have got a pure black plasma.
