20min XP loading screen, 10k rpm HD

Thread Starter
ok so I have a 10k rpm hard drive and before the new mobo and cpu were installed, XP loaded to my log in screen in under 8 seconds, but ever since I upgraded (cpu:2.0ghz single core - 2.6ghz duel core, ram: 1gig ddr - 4 gigs ddr2) its now taking upwards of 20 minutes. I have tried re-installing windows, that didnt work. Im not sure if there might be an issue with my hdd not getting the power it needs to run faster? or maybe I should have set my bios to run a 2.6ghz cpu. btw the mobo is new too, its an M2N-SLI Deluxe with a Award bios. I have tried (well I can't say everything or it would be fixed lol). not exactly sure what to do from this point, short of shaking chicken bones at my monitor haha. any suggestions?

Sounds like the drive is not compatible with the mobo. Contact ASUS.

will do, btw the drive is a Western Digital Raptor 10k rpm sata. got it 2 years ago. if you were curious =P

Edit: I was just thinkin about it and I think it might be more suited for it than my old mobo was. the old mobo had 2 sata ports, this one has 6 and an external one. actually something I didnt try was putting an OS on the back up hard drive. that would kinda suck though if I was stuck using the 7800rpm hard drive as my os rather than the 10k which gets stuck being the mule. the loading times were the only reason I bought it.

That's really really weird. Are you sure everything is getting power? Did you try switching power connectors making sure that the mobo doesn't just suck with one of the connectors? If not, then maybe something is wrong with the mobo. If that's the problem then try using a different hdd and see if that even works as a reasonable speed. But yeah, contact ASUS about 10k rpm WD hdd's and their mobo.

I was talking to this guy in another channel and he told me to make sure that I had my settings right in the bios for sata drives, I have everything the same as default except for I did turn off raid on the sata's. it was the only way that I could boot, it kept telling me "Device check done - No Any Drives found" and then it wouldnt boot. not sure if I need the raid to be turned on or not. Il try installing xp on my other HD here in a bit, but I have to write this essay for english or my prof is gonna kill me, its 5 pages due in about 8 hours and I havent started =P

Edit: I was messing around with my overclocking settings for my cpu and I turned the voltage up on my cpu to stabilize it and when I restarted, the windows loading screen was even slower... think this might be the problem?

woot ok so I solved the problem. it wasn't getting enough power, so I put it on its own plug and it started immediatly. on a side note I got really lucky =D my old Nvidia7900GT crapped out on me so I RMA's it and they sent me back an 8800GTS. this baby looks sweet =P so now I have that running dual monitors

Edit: Thanx Pasha! I wasnt sure where I got the advise
