Hi all - I've just got and installed my new AMD PHENOM 2.3 black edition cpu I'm running it with a stock air cooler - can any one help me overclock this cpu and what can I expect to get out of it

I'm not knocking AMD or Phenom at all, but the fact is you might not get more than 2.8GHz. If you're lucky, you'll get 3GHz maximum with at least 1.5 vcore. The Phenom's do not overclock well, even the black editions. You are better off sticking with the 6000+ for gaming or else the Phenom will bottle kneck your gpu.

i agree stick to less vcore, below 1.5, otherwise the CPU life will shorten indefinately.

With stock cooling don't even think that 1.5v is gonna happen. You will be lucky to run 1.45v and 2.7ghz, more likely with stock cooling you can expect 2.6ghz.

thanks for the advice - I'm going to stick with this phenom for now and see if I can improve it a bit - my 6000+ would not overclock by much either - I must be doing some thing wrong oh well not to worry.
