I have used an sata converter on one of my hard drives before. I bought it from newegg a few years back. pretty simple little circuit board with 3 connections on it. male sata, female IDE, Male 4 pin power like whats on a floppy disk drive. it worked just fine. I bought it because i have 5 IDE devices but given you have only 2 I would just put it on one cable, it would make life simpler maybe pick up a round cable or make one of your own i think there is a how-to somewhere on this site.

On my gaming rig, I'm using a IDE HDD & DVD drive (both on cable select) on the same IDE channel without any issues.

Also, on my server I'm using two HDDs, on the PCI ATA 133 RAID card without any issues.
