780i Overheat, need replacement cooler.

Thread Starter
I recently preformed the foam pad mod on my 780i to lower temps, but I scratched the cooler. My temps top out at 80c for the SB, NB is always under 40C.

I need a replacement cooler for both the NB and SB, do I need a special kind? The NB cooler has 2 chips under it. Also there is a heatsink near the cpu that is connected to the NB by a heatpipe, is this heatpipe removable? And if it is will removing it hinder it's cooling?

I wish it was a simple as sawing off the SB cooler, and only needing to replace that. But I don't know if you can saw a heatpipe safely.

Newegg should have some too, too lazy to look

just look for the one that fits.
Some old vga coolers can now fit as a NB cooler.

I reseated it, instead of using a thin layer of AS5 I put a huge glob of the generic white stuff. I'm getting about 70C at full load now on the southbridge, northbridge doesn't surpass 37C.
