Build for my Mom.

Thread Starter
Currently I am looking at this:

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...itle=Mom+Build

Wanna keep it pretty cheap, might also cheapen it up and buy an 8800GT with her money, and switch it out with my 8800GTS.

Any suggestions would be sweet, thanks!

Oh, and shes looking at spending around 700-900 dollars.

Get her an E2180/E2160 if she wont be using much processing power. The E6550 isn't the best Core 2 Duo. If you must get a Core 2 Duo then get the the E6300. Also if your mom won't be playing games just get her a 2400PRO or HD3470. Other than that it looks pretty good.
does she need THAT good of a video card??

Also, may want to let her pick out her own case, it will make it feel like hers!

Could save money with case and video card and upgrade her CPU to quad.

just my 2 cents!

You really only need one disk drive and does your mom really need a 500Gb hard drive? Also I would get her a nice power supply if this build is supposed to last a long time, rosewill isn't bad, but just not the best. Xclio has a good 500 watt that would be plenty or corsair has good ones. Silverstone also has good medium/low wattage psu's that will last a long time.

For all we know, she might be playing Crysis all high @ 2560 X 1600.

Ouch not the E6550, good luck with the 7x multiplier, anywhere past 3GHz would be a pain. I overclocked my mom's E2140 to 3.2GHz easily. Get something like a E4500 instead.

She's basically gonna be using this for email, word, video encoding/burning, photoshoping, and thats about it.

Oh, and she will probably need a 500gb HD, if not more, she has a TON of pictures.

And she needs two drives, so she can burn info from on DVD to another.

Ok, so this is a media editing/pruduction pc. In that case, If you can you may want a quad. I do a little video editing and trust me, she would love the quad. Also, do not hold me to this, but I think it is better to have like a 512 Mb gpu for editing. I heard that somewhere, but I have no idea whether its true.
