GeForce 8800 GT v 9600 GT - Page 2

Is temperature even relevant as long as the card functions properly? I mean it will work just fine 70-75c and below, so what's the point in worrying about temps at stock speeds?

If you plan on getting the card to overclock, then you should be purchasing an aftermarket cooler regardless of what the stock temps are.

You are actually wrong. If you had looked at the benchmarks for this, you would have quickly realized that the 8800GT is better than the 9600GT.

For performance it goes like this.

8800GS < 9600GT < 8800GT < 8800GTS (G92)

There is no need for further argument when benchmarks already prove what I say to be right.

Now please stop attacking members and open your eyes to the truth.

To the OP:
You are an ass (especially for having 26 posts)
You reap what you sow.

Where did you get the idea that the power requirements for the 9600 are that much lower than the 8800?

8800GT SC
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...512-P3-N802-AR
Requirements
Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 450 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)

9600GT SC
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...512-P3-N862-AR
Requirements
Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 450 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 28 Amp Amps.)

That's my documentation and backup for my facts both are similar in power requirements.

You're still an ass, and my documentation for that fact is this thread.

What is that? Proof that the 8800GT is better? What? That's impossible!

Cov(enant), I have a question to ask you. Why are you basically doing a subtle bashing on Sonic? You asked the questioned which he answered without proof. Ok, sort of understandable to an extent which you then asked for proof in a not very nice way. He provided that proof which was in regards to performance. Yes he did not answer the temp question with actual facts, but using a common sense would bring one to the conclusion that upping the fan speed will bring down the temp.

Case in point look at my card.

Idle with fan at 29%:

Idle with fan at 99% (Nvidia control panel does not allow 100% fan speed):

You can see a difference of 8 degrees F. There is no need for your attitude towards Sonic.

All I know is that if you click the 3D Mark 06 orb links, the 9600 GT is competing with the HD3850 with the HD 3870 slightly higher with the 8800 GT dominating (click my 11155 and look on the page at what I mean)

ok you have to logout and go to the main orb page

Thread Starter
To come back to the original subject of this thread for a moment, I haven't bought any new graphics card yet and the cost of the card wouldn't matter to me.

The GeForce 8800 GT appeared to be the right choice ... until people reported that the 9600 GT runs much cooler which becomes interesting especially for those who have a SFF case, eh ?
